Preventative Maintenance

What Is Preventative Maintenance?

Preventative maintenance is a schedule of planned maintenance actions aimed at the prevention of breakdowns and failures. The primary goal is to prevent the failure of equipment before it actually occurs. The result of a successful PM extends the life of the facilities and equipment, and minimizes unscheduled downtime that causes major problems.

  • Improve system reliability
  • Decrease cost of replacement
  • Decrease system downtime
  • Help with inventory management

Why Is This Important?

Wear, tear, and change are always anticipated. Continuous corrective actions may always be needed, but with scheduled preventative maintenance we can enhance equipment reliability by replacing worn components before they actually fail.

What Is Involved In Preventative Maintenance?

It is a planned and controlled program of systematic inspection, adjustment, lubrication, and replacement of components, as well as performance testing and analysis. A good Preventative Maintenance program ensures that equipment runs properly and loss of production does not occur.
